Psychological games won’t work, can’t bully me to make erratic decisions

Premier Andrew Fahie in the House of Assembly on Thursday, April 25.

Premier Andrew Fahie said, since taking up office, he has come under considerable pressure to transform the British Virgin Islands almost overnight.

But the leader of government business made it clear he will “not be bullied” into making hasty and foolhardy decisions.

“If you listen to just a few, they are speaking as if we must change the entire territory in the direction that it was going for eight years. They want us to do it in eight days [and] that’s not possible,” the Premier said.

“I am not going to allow psychological games to get to my head to allow me to get to make any erratic decisions … to do the things that are not right in the sight of God for the people of the Virgin Islands.”

The Premier, who was making his contribution to the 2019 budget debate on Thursday, said he and his team have achieved ‘quite a bit’ in the two months they’ve been in office.

“I want to state that inside this budget shows our signature that we have started a deposit into the lives of the people to put this territory back into the hands of the people.”

He said the Virgin Islands Party administration’s mandate is to ‘increase accountability and increase what he described as the people’s confidence in governance’.

However, he said government cannot “just fix buildings” if they are to achieve their objective.

“We cannot just increase the recurrent [budget] without that money reaching to the people. Those who do not have roofs, those recreational areas that are still not fixed, our schools … this territory never had a money problem, this territory had a management problem.”

In just 2 short months 2 cronies (jw & csc) were hired along with 2 bodyguards. Several prayer meetings were held and we racked up several hundred frequent flyer miles flying around the place and we will be flown to SKB for some foolish convention later this month

You are a wicked and irresponsible person whose only intent is maliciousness. What about the Marine program for our youth to be trained and qualified in Marine areas. What about the Consumer Protect Bill on the way. What about the regularizing of persons who are living in the BVI for over 20 yrs with no status. What about the repairing of the L-shape building at the Elmore Stoutt High School. The list goes on & on so talk the facts and not juat the ones you think that you can misuse to make the Premier and his government look bad and irresponsible. It will not work.

Why you fail to mention by-passing the bidding process for the L shaped buildings and the incinerator?

Seems to me that the new government is moving in the right direction of science based decision making and policy making and more importantly with transparency and accountability. Would love to see the financial reporting for the last four years and a detailed cost benefit analysis of projects undertaken by the current and past governments.

I want the Premier to succeed but I got my eyes on him after that Claude thing. You don’t have to lose control when people say things or you are in the wrong business. Simple articulate your position and do your thing, the power is in your hands.
