R City, multiple dancehall, soca artistes for festival

Hours before the Virgin Islands Festival & Fairs Committee’s official announcement, promotional posters of the line-up of artistes who will perform during this year’s emancipation festivities began circulating on social media in the British Virgin Islands.

The leaked posters feature 10 main acts for the 11-day event, which begins on July 28 and culminates on August 10.

The internationally acclaimed entertainers among this year’s line-up include popular American/Virgin Islands duo Rock City, Jamaican dancehall artistes Bounty Killer and Dexta Daps, as well as Trinidadian soca singers Patrice Roberts and Destra.

Other entertainers making the 2018 line-up are Trinidad’s Nadia Batson and Farmer Nappy, Jamaican reggae singer Sanchez, the Tripple Kay band, Razor Blades, local bands OMG and VIBE, among others.

Events for festival 

The festivities are scheduled to kick off on Saturday, July 28 with what a ‘Calypso Review’ and another event at Pancake Paradise in Road Town.

The annual Prince and Princess talent show will follow on Sunday, July 29 at the Eileene Parsons Auditorium at the H Lavity Stoutt Community College in Parquita Bay.

Things will then continue with what is promoted as the ‘Emancipation Day Documentary Release’.

Other events scheduled are the annual Gospel Fest.

A Cultural Food Fair will be held. Also on the schedule of activities for the festivities this year is a Freedom March, Emancipation Service, and the 2018 Miss BVI Pageant.

August 6 will include the famous Rise and Shine Tramp in Road Town, the August Monday Parade, and village entertainment.

The annual horse races will happen on August 7 while the East End/Long Look leg of the Rise & Shine Tramp will happen on August 8.

August 10 has been reserved for the Carrot Bay Cultural Fiesta.

    Yall ain’t tired leave out the local acts on the flyers then talking about leak by accident? As always !!! Communication is key get disciplined people on the team this is not the first time. Yall know the public gonna let Yall have it as to why Yall hurry go post on Yall festival page that it was leaked in error. Sad.

    We need to be having a prayer festival so everyone can get a roof over their head and every child in a proper classroom with food on the table and jobs restored. Restoration should be our total focus in this season.

    I think that money that the government are using to pay those foreign artists can be put towards repairing the public schools.
    We can just have the VI & USVI artist perform for this year carnival.

      @ Redbull. I agree with you 100%. No disrespect to the entertainers but I am quite sure that most of them have roofs over their heads and their children are attending a fully functional school. Priorities must be set and until this happens we will be forever moving backwards.

    None of us could have called on these artistes to help us when the flood and hurrIcanes came just under a year ago…people are forgetting and are turning back to their old sinful habits. May God have mercy on us for these demonic festivities needs to stop.

    Unless they are coming with money and or hands ready for hard labouring, ,,let them stay home and go elsewhree,,They have nothing to give and we no giveaway money, Their oresence is akways a reminder of the parasite nentalty coupled with disrespect which they never hesitate to display in their performances.We do not need ant additional insults, We already have enough of their ilk trampling on us during this the worse of our days,

    The people who complaining dont even support the events when you put local artist they jump on a plane go off island when you use international they say use local letd just get real its Island people is who support the events and in order to get them out you have to give them what they want. Disaster does means people way of life change people still go party and people still go go church and praise God
