The Recovery and Development Agency (RDA) has awarded a local construction company a contract valued more than $60,000 to assist with the restoration of the AO Shirley Recreation Grounds in Road Town.

No Limit Construction was awarded the $63,858 contract on June 3 to build a soakaway drainage system and to prepare groundworks for a new containerized bathroom at the facility.

A media release from the RDA said the scope of works for the project also includes the disposal of existing bathroom facilities and preparation of the “requisite landscaping”.

Managing Director of No Limit Construction, Rajah Smith, said: “I am proud to be part of the rebuilding process in the Virgin Islands and to work with the RDA, as a father of an athlete, to help restore the AO Shirley Recreation Ground.”

This signing brings the number of contracts signed by the RDA for the restoration of the facility to two, with an approximate total value of $257,226.60.

At least you can see the VIP Government is not being biased. They are sharing the contracts around not like the previous Govt when it was only their supporters. Let’s hope the country will come together and move forward in the right direction….finally.

Central Government has no control over RDA. So please do not think it is VIP selecting the contractors. RDA ALWAYS go with the lowest bid #facts. Go on their website and see for yourself.

This has nothing to do with VIP as they cannot tell the RDA how to award contracts .

It is wonderful that the A. O. Shirley Recreation Ground, the main recreational facility in the territory, is being refurbished. However, would not having being given the opportunity, albeit a devastating hurricane, that blue box was razed and a modern, state-of-the-art facility constructed? To be the best, we must show case to the world best and athletes must see, look (part) and feel good training and competing in the best.

@UM, thought that the BVI did not have a money problem but a management problem. So what is it? Are we hearing that the Treasury broke? No. In a twisted way, monster storms Irmaria provided an opportunity to do somethings differently. Every project do not not have to be replaced in like kind. Where practical they should be rebuilt differently/improved with resiliency .

  5. Tenders says:

As a contractor I am aware of the fair process of RDA. No matter who you are, the bids are scrutinized meticulously and documents presented are verified. You must meet all the requirements of the tender. No matter which party you support, everybody get the same treatment with no polio favors. Just how it should be. Wish they had all the government jobs to tender so we can all get value for money

Love the fair process, however who monitors RDA progress? RDA has a massive salary overhead for what is tantamount to petty contracts. We still dont have the basicsschools, water and sewerage and the incinerator
