RDA inks $221K contract to install music room containers at ESHS

The L-shaped building at Elmore Stoutt High School in Road Town.

The Recovery and Development Agency (RDA) has signed a contract valued more than $200,000 which is geared towards providing the continuation of the temporary music programme at the Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS).

A media release from the RDA said the agency was able to offer the $221,801 through donations by Unite BVI and BVI Alliance.

The purpose of the contract is to supply and install twelve modular containers on the concrete slab recently cleared by Autland Heavy Equipment Co Ltd which will serve as the temporary music classrooms for the high school.

Education Minister Dr Natalio Wheatley who received the contract from RDA’s Chief Executive Officer Paul Bayly said: “I will like to express my supreme appreciation to all of you for this generous donation to the children of the Elmore Stoutt High School. I know it will make a tremendous difference to them.”

He also invited the donors to attend the school’s next band and choir performance, to get a glimpse of the result of their donations.

The RDA which came into existence in April 2018 to address the urgent needs of the territory following the 2017 disasters, has been heavily involved with the restoration of the L-shaped building at ESHS which has received a total of six contracts valuing $4,156,057.63.

That project is expected to be completed by July 31.

Is this a joke? We need the RDA in place to accept a donation? WTF???????

You need the RDA to accept donations so the donations are actually used for the purpose of what the donation was given for. Otherwise some politicians might end up on an all expense paid trip to Disney World and a large shopping spree.

We sure must have a lot of it, because we sure don’t seem to spend it righ or wisely.

What an exorbitant cost for a container, when that same amout can build classrooms.

    FFinancial judgement appear non existent.

now I know the key words here are “install” and “twelve”. i don’t think i saw anywhere where it referred to ONE container. even though I get that a concrete structure is much stronger and permanent, maybe the emphasis here is on time that the space and equipment can be readily available for usage? my expectations are that these, again TWELVE containers will be used until a more permanent structure is built, and that these same containers can be used as temporary structures at other schools when the time comes for their rebuilding/rehabilitation. like the Isabella Morris Primary School, and others for instance. i’m just saying.

Soo, is there a specific reason why this did not go out to tender?

  8. School Children Say... says:

Ministry of Education received an offer of FREE architectural and engineering services to rebuild the High School. That offer was made in 2017. Why then are they putting in containers? Just asking.

  9. Really says:

Didn’t the fact that Irma rolled containers teach people anything??? Ridiculous- you could build a music building for that price – well if everyone doesn’t take a slice of the pie. Put the money towards a concrete building and start it now.
