Royal Knights climb to 2nd spot in point standings of local T20 tournament

Royal Knights pulled off a massive 81-run victory to close the gap between themselves and the team sitting at the top of the points table — the Cavaliers.

Both teams are now 24 points after the latest fixture of the 2019 BVICA-NAGICO T20 Tournament in honour of Ralph O’Neal.

Playing in the first game of the doubleheader against Police, the Knights posted an impressive 222 runs for seven wickets after going in to bat first.

Skipper and Player of the Match Joemal Lafleur led the batting with a quick 72 runs from 25 deliveries including five 4s and seven 6s while Richard Fredricks followed with 39.

For Police, Kevin Shilchand was the pick of the bowlers ending with figures of two wickets for 41 runs from his three overs bowled.

In reply, Police folded to their fourth defeat of the tournament after only managing 141 runs for eight wickets from their 20 overs.

Adrian Kartick and Selwyn Rock were the main contributors for Police in the batting department with 34 and 32 runs, respectively. The Knight’s Anthony Slowley and Reno Mitteholzer both copped two wickets each to bowl their team to victory.

Cavaliers vs Grenada CC

In the second game of the day, Cavaliers ensured they remained at the top of the points standings with a six-wicket victory over Grenada CC.

Sent into bat first, Grenada CC were bowled out for 184 runs in 18.4 overs with wicketkeeper Dave Johnson top-scoring with 52 runs from 33 balls.

Dhanpaul Chrisnanand and Hemchandra Narain were the leading wicket-takers for Cavaliers; each claiming three wickets. Avishkar Sewkarran and player of the match Jagnarine Persaud both collected two wickets apiece.

In reply, Cavaliers eased to the required total, ending on 158 runs for four wickets from only 15 overs.

Opener Kevon Boodie led from the top with a brisk 62 runs from 29 balls inclusive of four 4s and seven 6s while Persuad followed with an unbeaten 27.

At the end of these fixtures, Cavaliers edge Knights at the top of the points standings only by having a better net run-rate of +2.113 versus Knights’ +1.961.

Meanwhile, Road Town Wholesale (RTW) sits in the third position with 12 points and commands a better net run-rate than the teams sitting in fourth, fifth, and sixth positions.

Games to be played on Sunday, June 9 will see Vikings go up against Vincy CC at 9 am while RTW will face VG Spartans at 1:30 pm.

    Why only when cavs. Win we see an article? Last Week was a great game but the “cavs” end up loosing, now the team that won cant get recognized. Come on people.
