RVIPF seeking 15 new recruits for 2019

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) is seeking 15 new recruits to join its ranks.

The pursuit of these recruits is part of the RVIPF’s Cabinet-approved mandate to increase the number of officers in the Force by at least 15 over a three-year period. The initiative began in 2018.

The RVIPF is ideally seeking indigenous Virgin Islanders. But, Police Commissioner Michael Matthews said residents can also apply.

“In the past, attracting young persons born in the BVI to the Force has been challenging. But, we know that there are many bright and capable young men and women within our community that want to be part of creating a safer, more law-abiding territory to live in,” the Commissioner said.

He added: “Ultimately, this is where they will live, invest their lives and raise their families. We want them to be part of creating the environment they want to live in,” he reasoned.

The RVIPF is seeking recruits aged 18 to 30. Persons must have a high school diploma or its equivalent to qualify, the RVIPF said in a media release on Wednesday.

The release further said: “The salary range is between $22,700 and $33,300. Persons wishing to apply can download, print and fill out the employment application provided through the RVIPF tab on the Government’s website, www.bvi.gov.vg. Click on the Government link at top of the page and then departments to find all services provided under RVIPF.”

Deadline for 2019 applications is on April 30.

The RVIPF swore in 17 new recruits back in December 2018.

My old aunt (now deceased) always said “that’s a dog’s job”. Maybe that’s why so many people stay away from the profession.

These poeple protect us and handle some very difficult situations. They have my complete respect and appreciation. There may be a couple bad apples in there that need to be routed out but do not judge the entire force and the valuable work they do by that. If you want to help people and do good for your community this is a good job for it.
