Sea Cow’s Bay man fined for drugs! To be tried for escaping custody

Not the marijuana mentioned in the story

A Sea Cow’s Bay resident was fined $2,220 for two counts of possession of a controlled drug after pleading guilty in the Magistrate’s Court today.

Addision Nisbett, a 39-year-old car wash operator and father of three, was also charged with escape from lawful custody, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The court heard that about 11:30 am on September 21 last year, two police officers were conducting a routine traffic check when they stopped Nisbett’s vehicle.

The officers noted a pink knapsack on the backseat of the car. When the Nisbett was questioned, he said it contained baby items.

The bag was searched and a clear cylinder containing a green vegetable matter, later identified as cannabis, was found. The court was told that Nisbett sped away from the officers once the discovery was made.

It is reported that the next day, September 22, 2019, one of the officers was conducting another traffic check when Nisbett’s vehicle was spotted.

He was subsequently arrested and formally charged with possession of a controlled drug and escape from lawful custody.

The marijuana was reportedly weighed and it was 76 grams, which according to prosecutor Kristian Johnson, had a street value of $760.

The court was told a search warrant was obtained and executed on the car wash operator’s home and another bag of marijuana weighing 38 grams was discovered.

The father of three begged Magistrate Khadeen Palmer for leniency as he was trying to quit smoking and change his life for his three children, ages 12, 11 and eight.

After being fined for the drugs, the court offered the Nisbett $15,000 signed bail for the ‘escaping custody’ charge. His trial date for that offence is set for February 28 next year.

The police should have just confiscated this. What a waste of time and money. Can’t they focus on the real criminals? Where is the financial crime unit investigating the abuse of this jurisdiction by fraudsters and terrorists?

I guess I was not alone. That pic will make you curious. LOL. Can we be fined for our thoughts? Just wondering.

Anyway, disclaimer: I do not do pot or any other mind altering substance.

I find it curious however, why on God’s earth are people being chased down for a little bag of weed in this day and age when marijuana is being decriminalized in many countries for medicinal use and recreational use as well.

It’s like while the rest of the world inches forward on this, the BVI is stuck in the 60s.

We have discussed this topic on here multiple times. It’s time people press their local politicians to come up with some legislation that decriminalizes marijuana under a certain amount, and allow for medicinal marijuana products as well.

IMO, it’s a waste of the RVIPF to being going after people who are using marijuana recreationally, and a waste of the courts time.

Now, while I have never smoked marijuana, I discovered I was using a medicinal marijuana ointment recently for some back pain I was having. I say discovered because I did not read the label. I was given the bottle for pain, and I just rubbed down good.

To my pleasant surprise, the thing really worked. The next morning my pain was so much better. I was able to get up to go to work the next day. I felt good for a change. My bottle is almost empty.

So I say from my accidental use of a marijuana based oil, I got relieve from chronic pain I had in my hip, and I no longer have to take pain meds.

Marijuana is not all bad; it has it’s benefits. There needs to be a balance here. Marijuana reform please.

We accept gays and lesbians as a Christian society but heaven forbid man use biblical herb bearing seed as written in genesis.

We keep crying for legalization but literally some white guys who don’t know anything about weed all they know of are synthesics pill and nasal spray are standing in the way of our increased freedoms of access to a plant with life that they can not recreate.

  9. lol says:

    apparently we accept rapists too.

  10. Tony Montana says:

    legalize it

  11. Justice system says:

It seriously is taking over a year to settle this absurdly petty criminal action? Fine the idiot and be done.
