Tropical wave weakens, becoming less organised

The tropical wave that was feared to become a tropical storm this week has weakened and has been downgraded to a tropical disturbance.

Forecasters have reduced the chances of storm formation within the next 48 hours to 30 percent and 40 percent within the next five days.

“Environmental conditions are not expected to become significantly better for development, and the system is also expected to interact with the islands of the Greater Antilles during the next few days,” the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) reported Tuesday morning.

Notwithstanding, the BVI is not being exempted from the possibility of heavy shower activity this week.

“The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Service has indicated the possibility of rainfall amounts between two to 2.5 inches during the passing of the system,” the DDM said.

A Small Craft Advisory is also in effect.
