Two more outstanding audit reports tabled, 2017 to be laid next year

Two more outstanding financial audit reports have been laid before the House of Assembly.

Premier and Minister of Finance Dr D Orlando Smith laid the Auditor General’s Report for the financial years 2014 and 2015 during Thursday’s ongoing sitting of the House.

These two reports now add to the 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013 financial reports that were only laid before the House months ago.

“I have charged the [Auditor General’s] team to ensure that works continue unabated so that the audited reports of 2016 will be ready by the end of this month, December 2018,  and the report for 2017 be ready to be presented by the end of the first quarter of 2019,” Premier Smith told the House of Assembly.

The territory was without an auditor general between 2015 and 2017. That two-year gap, however, would only be a fraction of the reason government has not been preparing the required audited reports on its annual spending.

Government began submitting its outstanding reports after January 2018 when Sonia Webster came out of retirement and returned to her post as Auditor General of the BVI. Webster had served a number of years as Auditor General for the BVI before retiring in 2015.

The Minister of Finance should be fined and fired for his failure to do his duties on time! He failed to deliver audited reports as required by law! And he misspent our money.

The reports should be published so we can see where our money was really spent.

Where is the audit on our $7.2 mil investment that the Minister of Finance made in his airline?

Shouldn’t the 2018 report be done by march 2019 , not the 2017 . You could not run a business like this and this is our business.
