Uncertain times! Governor could be recalled tomorrow — Dr Pickering

With the current political upheaval in the United Kingdom (UK) surrounding Prime Minister Liz Truss’ resignation after a 45-day stint, one former legislator has suggested this spells even more uncertainty for the BVI.

Former Deputy Premier Dr Kedrick Pickering argued recently that because of the political turmoil in the United Kingdom, the BVI may be even closer to a suspension of the territory’s constitution.

According to Dr Pickering, if anyone does a quick analysis, it would be easy to see how many ministerial changes the UK has had in the space of the last few months.

“Here is why that is important, we don’t know who we’re dealing with,” Dr Pickering argued. “In these diplomatic, relationships, in these political relationships, invariably you will know somebody in the other side of the fence, who you talk to on a regular basis. You’d know what the pulse is, you know what a minister is thinking, you know what the government position is.”

He pointed out that two days prior to the Prime Minister’s resignation, she didn’t appear to be going anywhere.

Glorious uncertainty

Dr Pickering said that immediately after her resignation on Thursday, there was no obvious successor to Truss and he explained that the incoming leader will appoint new persons to their own cabinet.

“So, because of the state of flux that we are in, the position that we find ourselves in today, [come] 28 October, is a position of glorious uncertainty,” Dr Pickering argued.

The UK, he said, could appoint a new overseas territories minister who decides that the BVI’s constitution should be suspended since the UK has enough problems of its own at this time.

“It can happen, so the governor that we have, he can be recalled tomorrow, and then we get a new governor, because it’s a system that we’re dealing with and a system that right now is in great turmoil,” he expressed.

The former legislator said the BVI has to contend with the issues it faces and questioned whether the territory was prepared and ready, or whether it even has a plan to navigate its way through the turmoil.

What an id**t. The UK is enough of a mess right now, they don’t need to spend time and resources dealing with ours.

If we are making progress towards the legitimate concerns the people of the BVI have I see no change coming. We should concern ourselves with making the changes we agreed to. The COI may not have been perfect but it opened our eyes to the mess we had.

Thank you for understanding what is going on. There will be 7 Kingdoms and BVI, just as the rest of the world, will be part of one. I have read the comments. Wow. Your right, why haven’t the people heard anything. Well what is to come will be shocking for everyone. Those that read will, hopefully help those who don’t as you have have done here now. The response to this article is telling.
Liz Truss stepped down because of budget reasons. Or so we’re told. But there’s more that I can’t mention here but I’m sure you have read as well.
So musician, what would that have to do with your article? ?You have warned the people (about just 3% of the critical information) about what the globe is about to experience. I guess folks will wake up when the internet goes dark, and all technology goes down and we hear from those speak who are way beyond the UK. The UK will be listening just as the BVI and the rest of the world. Thank you for your real effort here. No one will escape what is almost here, no land mass will be exceptional.

The conversational topic that we need to have as a territory is “What if we go independent????” What does it requires????
What will we gain and what will we lose as a territory?????

You all only hinting on the matter but no one is letting the country know the consequences of going independent !!!! That is the damn conversation we need to have. You all keeping the answers to yourselves because of being in a position of power but right now before independence we need good governance damnit!!!

YES we need to go independent but the many questions will be and not limited to the following:

    1. What would be be called when we leave under the British Sovereignty? Virgin Island? Battle that with the USVI.

    2. Who will manage our national security and are we capable of doing it ourselves? As you can see we have a set of trigger happy scumbags running around town and can’t get them caught. Muchless the arms and drugs that are passing through this place.

    3. Do we remain with the US currency? Hmmm we might as well become a US territory, food for thought.

Lots more questions without answers but we need to start with the answers in order to convince the people if this is the path worth taking. Not scare them with UK ?? problems cause the entire world have problems.

Nothing for VI is uncertain. A COI determined it was in a mess because of people like him. The Governor is following the line set by the COI and will continue to help set the VI on the right path in line with UK policy following the COI. If the VI does not follow then the UK will intervene. Nothing is uncertain except whether the so called unity government will properly get on with the job.

You’ll find out!! This is way beyond Dr. Pickering’s reality which is quite accurate, if you can. Don’t be fearful, pray pray and pray some more…….for the entire planet. Mr. Rishi Sunak is the #1 pick. Kindly look at him. Just put his name in the internet search. This Friday, you shall know. This is just the beginning. And God wins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How about focusing on what we can do in our own house and stop talking about others. We have murders, guns, drugs, bad education, terrible infrastructure, social services that are weak, social security that is not enough, NHI that is broke but has made a few doctors multi-millionaires.

And you Sir, ain’t no Saint! Mr. Secret, behind closed doors, and do what he wants while promising the world.

Not one talking head (politician) who is currently elected, or wants to be elected is explaining to us the people what they intend to do within our own house to solve our own problems. Why is that?

    Get my point Doc?

  17. The Oracle says:

Picko is quite wrong. The Governor is a civil servant. He’s not an Ambassador which is a political post and yes, subject to recalls. In fact, the Tory party and the UK’s political leadership may be unstable but the civil service remains stable. Stop scaremongering.

The BVI has become a corrupt sh*thouse while under the watch of a UK appointed governor. Can you imagine how much WORSE it would be without their oversight. BVI incapable of becoming independent.
