USVI rides away with over $36K in cash prizes at Easter Sunday races

Horse owners from St Thomas in the neighbouring US Virgin Islands walked away with more than $36,000 in cash prizes after winning races that came with the largest purses at the Ellis Thomas Downs in Sea Cow’s Bay on Sunday.

They won the feature race which carried a purse of $20,000, race number-four which carried a purse of $9,750, and race number-two which had a purse of $7,150.

On the other hand, BVI horse owners won races five, one, and three which had purses of $9,750, $6,550, $6,800, respectively.

Race 1

UNCLE MACE out of Top Priority Racing Stables was the victor of the first race with a time of 1:34:4. The winning jockey was David Rosario.

LITTLE FOOL from Phoenix Stables in St Thomas came in second while JACK FALLON from Neva NV Always NV’D Stables in St Thomas was third.

The seven-furlong race titled the Julian Skelton Memorial was sponsored by Skelton Development Ltd.

Race 2

The victor of the one-mile-long ‘Bobby Hodge Invitational for Class C Horses’ was JORDAN’S SLASA from St Thomas. The racehorse won in a time of 1:49:2.

The second and third-place finishers were MY RUNNING MATE and ATREVETE both of the USVI.

Race 3

The Norma Henry-Flax Big Girls Rule was the third race of the day. The one-mile race was won by NADIAE’S IMAGE of the Top Priority Racing Stables in a time of 1:47:3.

Second and third were FRECKLE DE FRECK of The Boys Racing Stables and MY SONG VENEZUELAN from St Thomas.

Race 4

The Autley Crabbe Invitational was the fourth race for the day. The race, which was for Class B horses was won by GOTTCHA BLESSIN of St Thomas in a time of 1:48:1.

In the second position was GIANT VALLEY from Top Priority Racing Stables while CHOVANEC of The Boys Racing Stables was third.

Race 5

The penultimate race of the day was the Oliver Cills Showdown for Class B horses. CRYPTO HOLD of The Boys Racing Stables finished the race in a winning time of 1:47.1.

LUNCH BREAK from Top Priority Racing Stables came in second followed by FLASHIN CAT of St Thomas.

Race 6

In the final race for the day — the James Penn Caribbean Derby — saw TOTALLY EVIL from the Alliance Point Stables bringing home the win.

The $20,000 VIGL-sponsored race saw Victor Santiago riding the St Thomas horse to finish in a time of 1:45.3.

Five horses were down to participate. However, only two horses competed.
