Weed destined for USVI intercepted at RT Ferry Dock

BVI News understands that a package containing more than 70 grams of suspected cannabis was recently intercepted at the Road Town Ferry Dock after customs officers flagged it during a routine inspection.

Our news centre was informed that the discovery was made some time last week after a customs officer became suspicious while examining packages awaiting shipment. Highly placed sources said the package, which was reportedly destined for the USVI and in the care of a local shipping company, was turned over to police for further investigation.

Investigators reportedly opened the parcel and discovered what appeared to be cannabis. The substance was later recorded as weighing close to 80 grams.

No arrests have been announced, and it is unclear whether investigators have identified the person who sent or was intended to receive the package.

This latest seizure comes amid increased vigilance at the territory’s air and sea ports, where customs officers have intercepted several attempts in recent months to move contraband through the Virgin Islands. Those interceptions have included suspected drugs as well as firearm components concealed in packages destined for local and overseas addresses.
